Overview
Once you have setup and enabled an Ask Legal template you and your business users can start submitting Ask Legal requests.
Submitting a new Ask legal request can be done from a number of starting points:
- From the Summize web application.
- From Microsoft Teams via the Summize Assistant Bot
- From Slack via the the Summize Assistant Bot
Submit from the Web App
To submit a new Ask legal request from the Summize web application, follow these simple steps:
- Sign into Summize.
- Navigate to Requests.
- Click the ‘New request’ button located in the page header (top-right).
- A menu with some options will appear.
- Click the ‘Ask Legal’ option.
- A panel with some options will appear.
- Enter a friendly name for the request in the first field called ‘Request Name’.
Note: The name you enter here will become part of the Request ID, we recommend something memorable to help you find this request in the future. Note: This field is mandatory and must have a value in order to submit a request. - Select a template from the second option called ‘Select a template’.
- The intake questions for the template you selected will appear below.
- Enter your answer for each of the questions.
- Click the ‘Add file’ button in the ‘Attachments’ section if you want to upload any files or documents that are relevant to your request.
Note: All file types are supported and no individual file can be more than 10 MB in size. - Click the ‘Submit request’ button located in the panel footer (bottom-left).
- Your request will be generated and you will be taken to the request view.

Submit from Microsoft Teams
To submit a new Ask legal request from Microsoft Teams using the Summize Assistant Bot, follow these simple steps:
- Go to Microsoft Teams.
- Go the Summize Assistant Bot and login.
- Select the Ask Legal button, or type ‘ask legal’ as a new message and press enter or click send.
- A new message card will appear with a dropdown option asking you what you need help with.
- Select an option from the list of available templates then click ‘Confirm’.
- If the template you selected has any initial guidance notes configured, these will appear as the next message. Click ‘Continue’ once you have read and acknowledged the message.
- You will then be asked a series of questions by the Summize Assistant Bot through a chat experience.
- Type and send your answer for each question you are asked.
- When you have answered all questions, you will be asked to confirm if your answers are correct.
- Click ‘Yes’ if you are happy with the answers you provided and want to continue - or click ‘No’ if you need to amend any of your answers.
- After clicking ‘Yes’ you will be asked if you would like to upload any attachments.
- Click ‘Yes’ if you want to add any attachments that are relevant to your request and follow the instructions - or click ‘No’ if you don’t want to add any attachments.
Note: Attachments support all file types and no individual file can exceed 10 MB. - Once the attachment stage is complete you will be asked to enter a friendly name for your request.
- Type a friendly name for the request as a new message and press enter or click send. Note: The name you enter here will become part of the Request ID, we recommend something memorable to help you find this request in the future.
- Please wait while the Summize Assistant Bot submits your new request.
- Once submitted you will see a new message appear with details of your new Ask legal request including a link to view the request in Summize.

Submit from Slack
To submit a new Ask legal request from Slack using the Summize Assistant Bot, follow these simple steps:
- Go to Slack.
- Go the Summize Assistant Bot.
- Select the Ask Legal button, or type ‘ask legal’ as a new message and press enter or click send.
- A new message will appear with a dropdown option asking you what you need help with.
- Select an option from the list of available templates then click ‘Confirm’.
