How to Generate a HAR File in Your Browser (Mac & Windows)

Generating a HAR file can help our Support team quickly diagnose and resolve any problems you encounter. Follow this guide to provide the necessary diagnostic information.

Troubleshooting issues with the Summize web app often requires detailed information. Since most activities occur within your browser, we can leverage its built-in tools, such as the developer console and network inspector, to streamline the diagnostic process.

A HAR (HTTP Archive) file is a log of network requests generated by your browser. It captures details like request and response headers, content, timings, and more. This is extremely useful for our development team to diagnose website performance issues, analyse network traffic, and debug the Summize web app.

Here's how you can generate a HAR file in popular browsers:

Chrome (Mac & Windows)

  1. Open Chrome DevTools: Right-click anywhere on the webpage and select “Inspect” or press “Command+Option+I” (Mac) or “Control+Shift+I” (Windows).
  2. Go to the Network Tab: In the DevTools panel, click on the "Network" tab, and the recording should start automatically. If it doesn’t, click the round red record button to start capturing network activity. Then, check the “Preserve log” and “Disable cache” checkboxes
  3. Reproduce the Issue: Log into Summize and perform the actions you want to capture in the HAR file.
  4. Save the HAR File: Once you’ve captured the relevant activity, right-click anywhere within the network request list and select "Save all as HAR with content". Choose a location to save the file.
